Does Urgent Care Do Bloodwork?

A male doctor performs a blood draw on a female patient.

More and more, people are choosing to have their bloodwork and laboratory testing done at a local urgent care clinic. Urgent care clinics are often more convenient than scheduling an appointment with your doctor. Not only are they open after normal business hours, but you can also get the services you need more quickly without paying the high out-of-pocket costs too often associated with emergency room visits. At Getwell Urgent Care, you can get the lab test you need on the same day rather than waiting days or even weeks for a doctor appointment.

We offer a comprehensive set of medical services and have an on-site lab for bloodwork, urinalysis, and more. If you’re in the Southaven area and are wondering, “Does urgent care do bloodwork?” Your answer is yes.

Can you get bloodwork done at urgent care?

Blood tests help doctors see how well your body is working. They help check for certain diseases and conditions like cancer, diabetes, anemia, coronary artery disease, and HIV/AIDS as well as the function of your kidneys, liver, thyroid, and heart. Blood tests can also be useful to assess how well your blood is clotting or to determine whether you have an increased risk for developing heart disease.

Here is a list of common lab tests offered by Getwell Urgent Care:

  • Complete blood count
Complete blood counts are routine tests that can be used to detect several disorders including infections, anemia, diseases of the immune system, and blood cancers. Most doctors recommend getting a complete blood count test at least once a year.
  • Basic metabolic panel
Basic metabolic panels are one of the most common lab tests ordered by health care professionals. They measure your glucose (sugar) level, electrolyte and fluid balance, and kidney function. Most doctors recommend getting a basic metabolic panel once every year during your wellness visit.
  • Complete metabolic panel
A comprehensive, or complete, metabolic panel is a series of blood tests that give your doctor a snapshot of your body’s chemistry and the way it’s using energy (our metabolism). These tests are recommended annually, but they may be used more regularly to check on certain medical conditions, like high blood pressure, or to help diagnose a suspected medical condition, like diabetes.
  • Lipid panel
A lipid panel measures the amount of cholesterol and triglycerides (fat) in your blood and can help identify your potential risk for heart attack and other types of heart disease as well as diseases of the blood vessels. Most healthy adults should have a lipid panel once every 5 years.
  • Thyroid panel
A thyroid panel is used to determine whether your thyroid gland is functioning properly by measuring the amount of thyroid hormone in your blood. Unless you’ve been diagnosed with a thyroid disorder, you should have this blood test once a year.
